Mr. Beering will talk for 45 minutes on the subject of the 1994 ARIES project (an effort aimed at building a wide-area ATM network) and the demonstration Amoco hosted at the Dirksen Senate Office Building on December 8, 1994. He will also show a sixteen minute video documentary on the project and the demonstration.
The focus of the talk will be on the importance of ATM in the emerging communications revolution, with specific emphasis on applications and protocols. The network architecture and applications environment will be outlined in detail.
A recent article on ATM by David is published in the April 1995 issue of Data Communications magazine.
David Beering was named senior staff telecommunications analyst for Amoco Corporation in April, 1995. He previously served as staff telecommunications analyst from 1992 and senior telecommunications analyst from 1990.
In his current position, Beering is responsible for analyzing the impacts of emerging technologies on future network deployments, with emphasis on Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) technologies. He was program manager for Amoco's 1994 ATM Research and Industrial Enterprise Study (ARIES) project.
In his current capacity, Beering is also chairman of the Enterprise Network Roundtable, the user committee of the ATM Forum, and serves as Amoco Corporation's representative to the American Petroleum Institute's Telecommunications committee. He currently serves as project director for the American Petroleum Institute's 1995 ARIES project, an international energy industry-wide continuation to the 1994 ARIES project.
Prior to joining Amoco Corporation he was systems manager in 1989 and network engineering supervisor in 1987 for AT&T Communications in Chicago, IL.
Beering is a member of the board of directors of the Purdue Alumni Association and WYIN-TV Channel 56. He is a member of the advisory board for the Purdue University Department of Bands, a member of the American Federation of Musicians and a commercial pilot. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Association for Computing Machinery and the American Meteorological Society.
A native of Texas, Beering received his bachelor of science degree in computer and electrical engineering and a master of science degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University.
Beering and his wife, Donna, reside in Wheaton, Illinois.
