Encapsulation

• RFC-1483 is Multiprotocol Encapsulation over ATM

• Generally used for WANs

• Two encapsulation methods supported:

  • LLC/SNAP (Logical Link Control/Sub-Network Access Protocol)
    • A single connection to support multiple packet types
  • VC multiplexing
    • carries a single protocol
