Cryptic RE Example

• With sed, we can group pattern matches with parentheses to create positional parameters.
  • Notice that the parentheses are preceded with a backslash
• Are group is as follows:
  • First Positional (\1) parameter is looking for a digit; and the next digit can occur zero or more times.
  • Send Positional (\2) parameter is looking for a digit; followed by a second digit.
• In the substitution, we will replace the periods with a dash.
