AWK: Making It A Power Tool

Abstract

AWK is a powerful text-processing tool in Linux and Unix used for searching, filtering, extracting, and transforming structured text data, especially column-based files.

Glenn will provide examples as to why AWK is a powertool and many should take advantage of it.

This will be a virtual meeting on Zoom.

Our live meetings had been held at the Bolingbrook Fountaindale Library but we have been holding our meetings virtually since the pandemic began since March 2020. However, there is now the possibility of holding live meetings going forward but will be decided as each meeting is defined. Are you interested in attending an in-person general meeting?

Bio

Glenn Stafford is a veteran Unix/Linux professional best known for automating server installations, software code conversions, version control environments, shell programming, and automating system administration tasks.

His notable accomplishments include:

  • Automating installations where servers were ready for full accreditation within 30 minutes without the use of Commercial Off The Shelf configuration tools.
  • Automated the migration of VmWare virtual servers of the AWS Government Club services.

    • When Glenn lived in the Chicagoland area, he was a dedicated member of Uniforum presenting on various topics and facilitating the UNIX Bootcamp and UNIX Top Gun workshops.


    Getting to the meeting

    This July 2026 General meeting of UniForum Chicago (time as described with the meeting's title above) will NOT be at a physical location, but will be a virtual on-line meeting using a planned Zoom meeting for whom the Zoom URL for connecting to the meeting will be displayed in the Lu.Ma announcement's Location to those.
