Development of an Autonomous Movement Framework for Drones

The Autonomous Movement Framework for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (uAMF) was successfully demonstrated July 26th on the IIT Chicago campus. This presentation is an update of the progress and potential of this framework for deployment in the real world. The project successfully built and deployed hardware and software to manage the autonomous movement of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles based on GPS location. The goal was to be able to call a carrier drone to your location via a standard smart phone app and have a central server process the order, queue the order up, and distribute the order to a waiting drone. The drone would deliver the package to your location, drop it, and then return to it's home location all without human intervention. All of this was accomplished and we are seeking to move to the next stage of large scale manufacturing and integration of Augmented Reality for Air Traffic Control.

Theo Riviere is a student from Paris France completing his second Masters Degree in ITM at Illinois Institute of Technology. He is also a graduate of the School of engineering ESIGELEC in Paris. He is specialized in IT and electrical engineering. He was a primary developer on the Autonomous Movement Framework. As a student he has a focus in IT Management, and Data Management and Analytics.

Professor Jeremy Hajek is a researcher in the Information Technology and Management program at the Illinois Institute of Technology's School of Applied Technology. He specializes in Embedded Systems, sensor networks, smart technology (IoT), and wearable computing. His expertise extends to IT infrastructure and Operations and his current research is in the area of autonomous fleet movement of UAVs (drones) for use as assistive technology in areas such as disaster relief.
