This presentation is a how-to and a personal experience of installing and using Caffe & Digits for a high speed coin sorting project. Caffe is an open source deep learning framework developed by the Berkeley Vision and Learning Center. It has been making the news mostly for high speed and ease of image classification using convolutional neural networks. DIGITS, by NVidia, is a web app for training deep learning models using Caffe, as well as other frameworks. It's easy to get started with them using low cost no-GPU Ubuntu AWS instances. The presentation will include a live demo of a system physically sorting coins by date.
After the meeting we generally adjourn to Cozymel's around the corner from IIT for a more informal get together and discussion.

Turn right (north) for 1.5 miles to Rt. 56/Butterfield Road. Turn right onto Rt. 56/Butterfield Road and proceed 1/4 mile to the first traffic light (East Loop Road). Turn left on to East Loop Road, ( Phillip's 66 Gas station on the corner); the campus will be on your right about a block north of Butterfield Road, behind Cozymel's.
